I spent more than 35 years in leadership and management roles for some of America's most successful Fortune 100 financial institutions. Most notably, I was Managing Director at TIAA, where I built and ran the risk governance structure that reported to the Board, led the firm's enterprise risk program, and advised the CEO and executive team on the risks most likely to derail the company's strategic plans. I was also a senior consultant to several other large financial institutions remediating complex regulatory issues and held senior leadership roles in public accounting and internal audit. These years shaped me with the leadership and organizational discipline demanded of world-class organizations.
Prior to earning my MBA, I supported founders of several family-owned, entrepreneurial businesses – my father's corporate and retail travel agency, an estate and financial planning practice for business owners, and a leadership development company. It's where I first experienced the struggle of holding life and business together, and how quickly one can start to outpace what a person can carry.
That early experience stayed with me, and it's part of why managing life and business holistically became something I'd think about deliberately in the years that followed. Grounded in my spiritual values, I spent those same 35 years building and living a personal framework that let me grow intentionally across every dimension – faith, family, career, health, relationships, and finances. Married more than three decades, a father of six and young grandfather of eight, I built capacity and capability on both fronts, professional and personal, refusing to let one crowd out the other.
The parallel journey of succeeding in both arenas at once is the foundation of Clear Pathways. I now work with founders, entrepreneurs, business owners, senior leaders and growing professionals, all of whom are generating real success, but sense that their business, and their life, is outpacing what they can hold. I help them extend their own capacity and capabilities and the capacity and capabilities of the organizations they lead, so they can continue to achieve their professional and personal goals.
